This week, General Motors released the official SAE-certified power numbers of the 2015 Corvette Z06, and it’s clear these Chevy engineers wanted to make a statement.
650 hp at 6400 rpm with 650 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm.
Only six other cars available in the United States offer more power under their hoods, but each costs more than twice the price of the new Vette. Knowing this, GM looked to capitalize on bragging rights by creating their own infographic showing where it stands in this model year:
The SRT Viper is the only other American car on the list, but it remains a longshot to answer the power and ferocity of the Z06. Still, as Detroit fans are well-aware, Chrysler may have an answer of their own in a month or two, when the supercharged Hellcat V8 is unveiled.
“In the end, as a car enthusiast, this is the sort of forum-fodder red meat you live for. Porsche vs. Corvette. GT-R vs Corvette. ANYTHING vs. Corvette. Let the flame wars begin. With the Stingray, GM delivered a truly world-class car. With the 2015 Z06 coupe and convertible, it’s trying to put it in a class by itself. This is gonna be fun to watch unfold.”
